Day 11 of Prayer and Fasting: No more parasites

As I studied water fasting before we started, I ran across an eBook of a woman who did a 40-day water fast for health purposes, not spiritual, but nonetheless there was something about her experience that I want to share with you. Now, I have to warn you it's a bit gross, but I think there's a good connection here we need to make. This lady journaled that after eight days of water fasting, although she was in seemingly good health, she passed a 5" parasitic worm. She then continued for the next 20 DAYS to pass these parasites as she continued her water fast! She immediately felt the disconnection of these parasites in her intestines and immediately felt better. She writes that she probably has had these parasites for decades and suggested that they might be the cause of many of the health problems she had faced in her child and young adulthood life.

When I read that, I obviously got the shivers thinking of what might be living my body unbeknownst to me, and immediately started planning my 40-day water fast to be sure I get free of whatever is hiding in there too! Maybe one day I'll get the strength and courage to take this on. Until then, I think there's a spiritual connection that's more important, and one I can address right now.

How many of us have spiritual "parasitic worms" living in our souls, feeding off of the spiritual "nutrients" we put in our souls and spirits, keeping us from enjoying the full benefits? You know what I'm talking about, right? Think about these things that are living and feasting off your soul -- parasites like pride, lust, addictions, fear, bitterness and forgiveness, and deep wounds that we won't let heal.

If you and I ever want to be fully healthy in our souls, we must cleanse ourselves fully and do whatever it takes to rid our souls of these nasty parasites that have no rightful place. This thought reminds me of Hebrews 12:1:

"Do you see what this means - all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running - and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in."

Can I ask you to deal with that hidden unwelcomed guest living inside you? If you need counseling, go get it. If you need to go make something right that you wronged, don't wait another second to ask for forgiveness. If you need to stop hiding and lying, confess your sin today. If you need to break your addiction, go to rehab, throw away your phone or computer, go cold turkey! If you're in an unhealthy relationship, walk away or mend it, but don't live in the balance anymore. Cry, hurt, be embarrassed, but whatever you do GET THE WORMS OUT. Don't think you can deal with it later. You can't. The toll it will take on your spiritual health is simply too great!

Let this season of prayer and fasting EXPOSE the unhealthy spots in your soul and then let the Holy Spirit's rain come and wash it with her water and make you clean and finally free.

DAY 11 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Expose and remove wicked leaders and legislation and give our government wisdom to protect Israel.

Israel: God's heartbeat, His chosen people, the apple of His very eye. The Bible says: "Whoever blesses Israel will be blessed, and whoever curses Israel will be cursed."

I know there are many things our government needs to fix, but the one thing we can't get wrong is where we stand on the side of Israel. If we want the blessing of God, we must bless Israel. Let's pray that our government will continue to defend, align with, stand up for, and protect God's chosen nation. I don't think we'll fully understand the magnitude of this land and people until Jesus returns and makes it all come alive to us fully, but until then the Bible urges us to pray and promote peace in and for Israel. Let's also pray during this time for President Trump, his secretaries and all the branches of government to be led by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. Don't ever think these prayers don't count. Despite how you feel about President Trump, you're commanded in Scripture to pray for him. It's easy to criticize and judge, but it's harder to get on your knees and pray. Let's be people that will pray in humility. Remember, this world is not our home; we're just passing through. So while we're passing through, let's do our part to pray that God's will would be done here on Earth just like it is in Heaven. Only God has the answers for the deep divide of our country on all the many social issues.

If we'd pray more than we post or spout off our opinion, can you imagine the impact God could make as He moved to the cries of His children?

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.

DAY 10 of Soul Food - Belonging to a Family

Gathering, eating, and remembering were all part of the lifestyle that Jesus modeled with His disciples. He invited the disciples into His inner circle and much of their fellowship involved food. He demonstrated community living to us.

Jesus lived with the disciples as family and He served them. In that way He showed us that church is not an event or a hierarchy, but relationship. We serve one another as members of His family, the Church.

“... you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15 (NLT)

The best way to be made cleansed is to just be real with God, vocalize your sin, humble yourself to Him and show your weakness and ask Him to forgive you. Admit your need for Him, the cross and His cleansing power!

This was the verse of the day today on It's so fitting!

For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our trespasses, sending them away, letting them go completely and forever]; and You are abundant in mercy and loving-kindness to all those who call upon You. - Psalm 86:5

Let this song guide your posture before the Lord today. It's a good thing when the people of God humble themselves.

We bless you, Church. God loves you so much -- beyond our comprehension!
