Day 12 of Prayer and Fasting: No pornography

When we started this 21 day season of prayer and fasting one of the things that I felt Got speak to me was to study the book of Acts. It’s a book that I’ve read before, but it had been a while. As someone who loves stories, stories of all kinds, the book of Acts is a GOLD MINE filled with great stories.

One of the stories that I read recently is captured in chapters 3&4 of the book of Acts involving two of Jesus’ disciples, Peter and John. (I am intentionally leaving out the details of the story to build some suspense in your mind that might just tempt you in to going to read those stories for yourself:) As you read this story you will see that there are some pretty incredible things that happen at the faith and hands of men who the scriptures identify as “ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.” For an ordinary guy like me this is great news.

But as you slow down and read past the HUGE moments of the story I think you will discover like I did one very incredible observation. These ordinary and untrained men had an EXTRAORDINARY ability to recognize a moment as their moment. It seems that Peter and John mastered the art of being at the right place at the right time. I think even more than that, Peter and John recognized that everywhere they were was the right place and whenever they were there was the right time. They lived constantly aware that the next moment could be a God moment and the difference between someone knowing Him forever or never knowing Him at all.

I wonder if you’ve mastered this art? I wonder if you’ve ever even thought before that where you are is the right place and when you're there is the right time for God to use you for a miracle?

Here’s what I challenge you to do… Ask God to give you “X-Ray vision” today, so that as you walk throughout your day that you could see past the surface of the moment and into the heart of it. Ask God for “supersonic hearing” today, so that you could hear past the niceties of a conversation and into the telling undertones of it. Ask God today for “super sensitive touch,” so that when you shake the hand of someone in need you would feel the emotion behind it and not just the effort. And that when you see, here and feel yourself being in THAT MOMENT embrace it. Engage in it wholly. Give it your full attention and ask God to use you in that moment.

Someones miracle might just be waiting on your being at the right place at the right time on purpose.

Praying for you.

DAY 12 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Break addictions to pornography.

This one is pretty straight forward, and it may not encompass everyone, but for those of you fighting this battle, we stand with you. We’ve fought it. We’ve dealt with it. We know the struggle to be free and healed. Please reach out if you need help. Get help. You can’t do it alone.

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.

DAY 11 of Soul Food - Leaving to Become

You are loved, and your primary need is to BE loved. Your value never changes, but your effectiveness does. Once you know your value and understand that it can never, ever change, you begin to become more effective.

After we come to a place where we know we are loved and belong, we start to become. It’s impossible to hang out with someone consistently without becoming like them. So hang out with God more! We are created to become what we behold.

Value is not based on what we do. Value is based on who we are. Nothing we do or don’t do can change the way God sees us. We are His, He is ours, Jesus paid the same price for us, and that makes us valuable.

Your journey of becoming matters. God wants you fully alive, enjoying abundant life and bang smack in the middle of your Promised Land doing what you were born to do. Let’s run after Him!

God said, “I’ve taken a good, long look at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from
the grip of Egypt, get them out of that country and bring them to a good land with wide-open spaces, a land lush with milk and honey, the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. Exodus 3:7–8 (MSG)
