DAY 19 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Break addictions to substances and all co-dependencies.

DAY 19 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Break addictions to substances and all co-dependencies.

Today’s prayer focus doesn't need a lot of ramp up to write about. Addiction is a very real deal that the term “affecting” doesn't quite describe what it’s doing to our culture, our city, our friends and our family members. It’s every where, and most of us find ourselves left scratching our heads when trying to think of what can be done about it.

This post is not an answer to that question. This post is simply a call to prayer for those who are bound up in addiction. The caution to this call to prayer is please don’t assume that when we say addiction that we’re just talking about drugs and alcohol. Those are very real and prominent addictions that need all the prayer we can throw at it, but addiction and co-dependency isn’t limited to drugs and alcohol.

Lets pray for all addictions to be broken in Jesus name. Addictions to food, to sex, to spending, to lying, to gambling, to pornography, to working, to gaming… really TO ANYTHING THAT SATISFIES OUR HEARTS THE WAY THAT THEY WERE MEANT TO BE SATISFIED BY CHRIST AND CHIRST ALONE!

Seeking satisfaction in Christ alone serves two purposes: It is for our good and for the glory of God. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.

It’s a bold prayer to pray but I think that people are worth it and God can do it, so why wouldn’t we?

If you don’t know what to pray try praying that God would create a thirsting, a yearning in the hearts of man like David had. That they would know a lovingkindness better than life. That their souls would be fully satisfied in Christ and Christ alone.

O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You.

So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

Psalm 63:1-5

Praying for you. Praying for them. Praying for us.

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.

DAY 19 - Blessed to Blessing

How often do we feel inadequate and rather than bringing the seeming small things of our lives - giftings etc - to Him we try to appear something or someone else.

The disciples were embarrassed about how few fish and loaves they brought to Jesus, but Jesus was unfazed! He knows what we have is not enough to perform the kind of miracles He has planned, but if you bring what you have to Jesus He will bless it and multiply it.

It's not those who have it together or come with full hands that Jesus uses. It's those that are willing to bring what they have to Him.

“Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. Matthew 14:18–19 (NIV)

No matter what's going on in your life, remember God sees every detail. He's the Master Creator and He's in control. Surrender to that fact and rest. He WILL provide for you!
