Day 2 of Prayer & Fasting

Tyler & Crystal

How did you first day of fasting go? I hope you are off to a great start. I always find day 2 and day 3 to be the hardest, especially if you're fasting food or sugar or caffeine. Don't be alarmed when your coworkers bring donuts for the whole office tomorrow, or when the headaches come or you feel sluggish. Your body is simply detoxing. Stick with it, though. Take a sick day if you need it. Fasting isn't for the faint of heart, but it is possible. Remember, though, although this takes a lot of determination and mental strength, this isn't a battle of the wills. This is all about surrender. The Holy Spirit is your empowerment and grace to proceed. Just call out to Him for extra help! We are here also for you at any time.

DAY 2 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: God, will you comfort the couples in our church who are struggling with infertility, empower them to trust you and give them children in your perfect time?

If this is not your problem right now, please take time to pray for the many couples in our church who long for a child of their own. We also encourage you to be careful with your words and mindful of your actions. You never know what someone is dealing with. If you know of a couple, reach out to them tomorrow or send them a nice card and encourage them. Pray & fast for these couples like you would want someone to pray and fast for you.

If this is you and where you're at, we want you to know you're not alone! We are standing with you and believing God with you. Fasting shouldn't be done to get something from God, but rather it should be done with the motive of learning His character more. So if you've been hearing stuff in your head like "God is punishing me," or "God is too busy for me," or "I will never be able to have children," or "God can't be trusted," let us just expose those as LIES from Satan himself whispering in your vulnerable time. He wants to distort the nature and character of God.

So let's go ahead and establish the truth:

LIE: "God is punishing me." TRUTH: God is merciful and slow to anger and He doesn't get vengeance against His sons and daughters, but rather forgets and forgives our past, and then blesses us with unmerited grace and favor!

LIE: "God is too busy for me" TRUTH: God is an attentive Father and cares for the tiniest of birds and where they'll live. If He makes time for the birds, how much more important are you, His most prized creation?

LIE: "I will never be able to have children." TRUTH: God never changes. He's the same today as He was yesterday. You do not hold your future. God does. He healed the lame, the blind, the deaf, the woman with the issue of blood, he raised the dead, and He even opened the wombs of the barren. If he did it then, He will do it again.

LIE: "God can't be trusted." TRUTH: God is faithful and keeps all His promises. He is a good Father and He allows trials and tribulation in our lives to train us to endure. He is not slow in keeping His promise, but His time is much different than ours. In fact all His promises over your life are "YES" and "AMEN." He will not withhold good gifts - or as He references children as "rewards" -- from you, His beloved! Even if things don't go as YOU had planned, His plans will make your life even more abundant because all He is able to do is GOOD.

We exhort you to expose whatever lie Satan has been feeding you about God's character, find passages during the fast that establish the truth, write them down on post-its and put them in front of you and whenever those lies slip in your mind, say the TRUTH aloud and remind Satan he's not allowed to lie to you!

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here

Day 1 of Soul Food: Nourished

We have a deep need to be loved, to belong and to make a difference. These core needs must first be met in God, so that we are able to love and beloved then by one another.

In order to live wholeheartedly and to be able to give out of a place of plenty we must know how much we are loved and who we belong to. We need those needs to be fed by God every day.

God deeply loves and enjoys you. He has from the very beginning. He wants you to feast at His table and enjoy the sustenance He offers, relying on His presence and His words to keep you full during the day.

Then God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He put the Man He had just made in it. God made all kinds of trees grow from the ground, trees beautiful to look at and good to eat. The Tree-of-Life was in the middle of the garden, also the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil. Genesis 2:8–9 (MSG)

Here's a great worship set to incorporate into your worship today! I encourage you to just close your eyes, lift your hands and just start singing this truth over every area in your life that you need a breakthrough or miracle!
