Day 3 of Prayer & Fasting: Open the Eyes of Our Heart

Have you wrote anything down in a journal yet about your experience so far? I urge you to make this a practice over the next 19 days, if you haven't yet. Journaling is a great way to record what you're feeling, process what you're learning, and record down what you feel like God is speaking to you. You'll love going back through and seeing the work that God has done in your life each day, and it will build your faith.

DAY 3 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Holy Spirit, open our spiritual ears to hear your voice and our eyes to see you clearly.

"He who has ears, let Him hear." Jesus spoke this phrase seven times in the Scriptures -- eight if you count Mark 4:23, "Are you listening tothis? Really listening?" It’s as if Jesus means, “Pay attention now [towhat I'm teaching at the moment]. This part is not optional.” It's kind of like when I say to my kids, "DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH?!"

I encourage you to do a Bible study and look up all seven times Jesus said this phrase and then pay attention to the lessons He was emphasizing surrounding the phrase.

See, this idea of really listening is crucial to our growth and understanding. Gaining this true understanding of God is critical so that we don't form a "god" made in our own image, worshiping a god we're comfortable with, a god we dictate, a god we subject to our own desires. So our prayer today is simple. Holy Spirit, open the eyes and ears of my heart. I want to see you. I want to hear you. I want to really understand who you are, what you're doing, and what you're about. Teach me. Guide me. Convict me. Change me. Use me.

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.

Day 2 of Soul Food: Whispers

The enemy’s one goal; his main focus, is to separate you from God. He despises the intimate connection you have because he has lost it forever. He will whisper to you that God isn’t good and try all kinds of lies and tricks to get you eating in all the wrong places. If you start believing him you will find your choices affected.

Without choice there is no true love and no real maturity. God will not force us to choose to eat from His table, He will show you who He is through His words and deeds and invite you to come. The choice is yours.

“How exquisite your love, O God! How eager we are to run under your wings. To eat our fill at the banquet you spread.” - Psalm 36:7-8a (MSG)

Worship Jesus today as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and Savior of your Soul. Declare His name over everything you're praying and fasting.
