Day 4 of Prayer & Fasting: Heal the Sick

How you feeling on Day 3? Strong? Weak? Tired? Energized? Clear?

Being completely real with you, this day was extremely difficult for me as my body adjusts to my new way of treating it. My son's roast beef sandwich SHOUTED my name in such a cruel and tempting way this afternoon as I savored [bitterly] my herbal tea and bottle of juice. Crystal and I are doing a liquid fast for the first time ever in our journey of following Jesus. We felt God calling us out to a deeper place of breaking and crushing. In fact, I write this post with a serious headache wanting so badly to just go eat whatever is available to me in the fridge.

That's the point, though. I'm so tired of my flesh being so powerful that it just gets whatever it wants whenever it wants. I want more of the Spirit of God to flow freely in and through me so that my flesh will not dictate what I say, how I react, what I do, where I go, how I think, what I indulge in; but, rather, I'll be so "dead" to the point that my body will be led by Jesus himself. The goal is more of the Spirit of God to live through me despite of me. That's what the World needs more of: people who are broken but who hold the anointing of a powerful God inside them.

I'm praying this Scripture during my fast: "I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become." (2 Corinthians 12:9-10 THE MESSAGE)

I encourage you today, if you're struggling, lean in to this understanding.

DAY 4 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Strengthen weakened immune systems and heal disease.

Today I want us to press in and ask Jesus to heal the members in our church who are suffering with chronic pain, disease and illness, and who need a divine touch in their bodies from Jesus, the Great Physician. There are members of our body who right now are suffering from Lyme Disease, mental illnesses, back and nerve injuries, herniated discs, diabetes, severe food allergies, and concussions.

God is more than able TODAY to provide you with your healing. We don't believe healings are reserved for people in Bible times. No! God's miracles still happen all over the Earth today. That doesn't mean we may receive it immediately, but let me encourage you God is still in the healing business. So if you've lost your hope, I pray through this fast, you'd have enough stamina and faith to reach out to Jesus either again, or maybe for the very first time.

As a church family, let's combine our prayers and come in agreement for those suffering from sickness and take authority over these issues in the name of Jesus.

Let's pray together now: "Jesus Christ, we ask you to heal everyone in our family. We pray through the trials, you'd grace us and perfect our faith, giving us patience and character. We know you're not the author of the suffering, so we ask that you do what only you can do and heal our brothers and sisters and guide and direct them in Jesus Name we pray! Amen!"

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.

Day 3 of Soul Food: Eating

Adam & Eve lost sight of the privileged position they had as the premier son and daughter of God. Their heart attitude caused them to disbelieve and disobey God and they ended up separated. Conversely, Jesus in the desert knew who He was and although tempted, He remained connected. Eating the right food is dependent on the heart we have towards God.

Eve looked at the fruit and listened to the whispers of the enemy. She saw God’s instructions through his eyes and thought that what he said made sense. She would get something positive out of following his suggestion. He disguised his true intentions and sugar coated rebellion to look like innocent self-interest and though the apple tasted exquisite for a time, she was lost.

If we are living from an orphan heart, our primary narrative is, “I MUST get my needs met.” It speaks of being alone, abandoned and that the ‘table’ is not full. The heart of a son isn’t looking for quick fixes or fast food; he knows His Father’s table is full and abundant.

"The serpent told the Woman, “You won’t die. God knows that the moment you eat from that tree, you’ll see what’s really going on. You’ll be just like God, knowing everything, ranging all the way from good to evil.” When the Woman saw that the tree looked like good eating and realized what she would get out of it—she’d know everything!—she took and ate the fruit and then gave some to her husband, and he ate." Genesis 3:4–6 (MSG)

This song has become one of our favorites recently. I love the lyrics and the thoughts it inspires and the faith it declares. "Oh, I will sing like a man with no sickness in my body!" It's so important to declare your faith over your body. Declare Heaven and its perfection over your waiting season. The Bible teaches us that faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. So when you sing aloud songs like this over your sick body, you're declaring the Word of God which brings vitality and health. I encourage you to get on your knees today and meditate on these words and then sing them as loud as you can! No matter what is sick in your life, Jesus is YOUR HEALER and even in the suffering, Heaven waits for you NOW.

"I know you love me.

I know you found me.

I know you saved me and your grace will never fail me.

And while I'm waiting, I'm not waiting.

I know Heaven lives in me."
