Day 6 of Prayer & Fasting: Flourish our Church
hope you are enjoying and using these devotionals. Today we encourage
you to dig into the Scriptures and write your own devotional. We'd love
to be encouraged by them! Post them on the City or on our StoryHeights
Facebook page. We're so grateful to be apart of this church family!
DAY 6 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: God, would you cause all of StoryHeights to flourish: Vision26, Newton, Southie, Montessori & Mattapan?
of the most freeing things for us as pastors is that StoryHeights
Church and everything about her is God's -- NOT ours. He's the owner.
We're the stewards. We may not be cool pastors, but we pray we're
faithful. We may not be the most charismatic leaders, but we pray we're
the most surrendered leaders.
We're so grateful that He
entrusted us with a local body to love, lead and mature towards knowing
Christ more and more. Collectively, you and I have the opportunity each
day to partner with Him to work this "field" that He's placed us in the
middle. As much as we toil, though, only God can cause a seed to grow.
We can water, care, weed, nourish the soil, but at the end of the day
only God can grow anything and cause it to flourish.
is our prayer and our confession -- that we're dependent on God, the
source for all we are and all we do. Our church has never been built up
by one or two great personalities; rather, it has been carefully built
up around the mission of the ONE and on the foundation of the person of
Jesus Christ. May this always be said about StoryHeights Church.
SOUL FOOD FAMILY MEAL
As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.
Day 5 of Soul Food: Covered
Adam and Eve had only known good things. Their desire has been sated, but their souls are empty because they now know now why God said, ‘Don’t eat of that tree.’ He was trying to protect them. They are now hiding from God, feeling wretched and horribly exposed.
The one they trusted (Satan) wanted to expose them. The one they had mistrusted and disbelieved (God) wanted to cover them. Even in the midst of their shame, fear, and awareness, God was calling to them. Right in front of their eyes, He makes them clothes.
HE’S ALWAYS GOOD
While Adam and Eve's bellies were full and they were battling shame, God was already preparing another ‘meal’ that would undo the damage they had done, heal all of humanity and satisfy their deepest hunger.
“God made leather clothing for Adam and his wife and dressed them.” Genesis 3:21.
“But you’ll welcome us with open arms when we run for cover to you. Let the party last all night! Stand guard over our celebration. You are famous, God, for welcoming God-seekers, for decking us out in delight.” Psalm 5:11–12 (MSG)
We love this song and how it speaks our prayer collectively as a
church. May we all make this prayer truer every day in our lives.
"Find us grateful.
Find us thankful.
Find us on our knees.
Find us dreaming.
Find us singing.
Find us lost in Your grace."
