Day 7 of Prayer & Fasting: Stop the Worry

We hope you are enjoying and using these devotionals. Today we encourage you to share what God has been speaking to you by posting on the City or on our StoryHeights Facebook page. If we can pray specifically for you in anything, please consider sharing that as well. We would love to pray for you, and we're so grateful to be apart of this church family!

DAY 7 CORPORATE PRAYER FOCUS: Bind Satan from lying to us, causing worries in our lives, and give us faith that moves mountains.

If there is one thing that will shut you down during a fast -- or in life for that matter -- is worry. Worry is the great dis-abler! It will disable you from from walking into the abundant life that Christ made available to all of us! Worry is simply the result of ceasing to believe the truth of who God says you are and what God says you have.

The reason we’re praying for the lies of our enemy to be bound is because those lies are the fuel of our worry. One of the names that the Bible calls Satan is "our accuser." The Bible says he accuses us of things that aren’t true and tries to convince us of realities that aren’t ours and don’t exist.

When we pray and fast, we are reminded of the truth of who God is and that His reality is our reality. When we pray and fast our faith is strengthened to the point where mountains of lies and accusations can and will be moved. This isn't done by us, but rather by God who has a life waiting for us on the other side of our worry that is more than we could ever have imagined. The bridge between where we are and to the life that God has for us is built by trust -- trust that God is who He said He is and that He can do what He said He will do.

Let's be the kind of church and the kind of people that choose trust over worry and walk in the freedom of God’s abundant life.

As a reminder, we are using the 20-day book study, Soul Food, by Havilah Cunnington of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, to guide our next 20 days, which will spark your own deeper studies with the Bible. This book is the perfect companion to your season of fasting. It looks at the spiritual food that God uses to fill our emotional and spiritual needs. You can order the book on Amazon if you'd like to go a little deeper, but below we will provide you the key thoughts from each day's devotional. There's also a 7-12 minute video that accompanies this study that we highly encourage you to log on and watch. This course is completely free and engaging! You can sign up for the FREE course here.

DAY 6 of Soul Food - Another Meal

The Old Testament describes hundreds of years of God speaking to His people through the prophets. It wasn't good enough. He wanted more. He wanted to be reconnected to us heart, soul and spirit. He knows that our hunger to be loved and our sense of belonging are critical to our soul.

The disciples thought they were setting up for just another meal as they prepared the Last Supper but God was setting up a heavenly exchange that was going to change the world. What seems ordinary could be symbolic of a miracle God is about to do on your behalf. Watch, ask, wait and expect. He might be about to turn it around.

‘It takes more than bread to stay alive’ was Jesus’ response when He was tempted. He endured temptation and the cross, with all it's shame to rescue, redeem and restore you. Communion helps us to remember the great price He paid.

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant...” Jeremiah 31:31

We love this song and how it speaks our prayer collectively as a church. May we all make this prayer truer every day in our lives.

“Let faith arise in spite of what I see

Lord I believe

But help my unbelief

I choose to trust You

No matter what I feel, let faith arise

Let faith arise.”
