Prayer, Fasting, and Live Bible Reading

January 20 - February 9, 2019 |

Prayer and Fasting:

Each year we take three weeks to consecrate ourselves at the beginning of the year by praying and fasting corporately as a church. Join us this January and February as we seek God in a new and powerful way through prayer, fasting and reading the bible out-loud in our sanctuary. We're stepping into a new season as a Church, relying on God's word like we rely on our next breath and fill our church building with the Breath of God.

Our fasting season officially begins on January 20th and will go until the night of February 9th. Fasting is essentially giving up food (or something else) for some time in order to focus your thoughts on God. While fasting, many people read the Bible, pray, and/or worship. It's a time to cut away the sins of our spirit that keep us from growing, and dig deeper into God's desire for your life. Not only does fasting and prayer help us focus on God, but through that time, it brings us closer to Him and changes our hearts.

There are several different fasts that you can participate in. We encourage you to pray and ask God what this season of fasting will look like for you, and join in on us. Some examples of fasts you can partake in are:

  • Abstaining from all food and drink except for water
  • Fasting all kinds of added sugar
  • Fruits & Vegetables only ("The Daniel Fast")
  • Reading your Bible in place of one meal a day
  • Social Media Fast
  • TV/Movie Fast

Live Bible Reading:

We believe the Bible is the word of God, and the foundation of all we do at StoryHeights. The Bible says, "For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires" (Hebrews 4:12 NLT). We believe that by taking 21 days to read aloud the Bible (yes, the entire Bible), we'll see a move of God as we've never seen before in our church and in our city.

We hope to accomplish this goal by inviting every church member to sign up for one or two Bible reading sessions in the church sanctuary on stage.

We encourage you to invite your friends and children to be a part and come with you to read, worship and pray. The sanctuary will be open to every church member during these sessions, and everyone is free to come in, sit in the chairs, worship, journal, do devotions, listen to the reading, pray and have communion with the Lord.
